Copy Cats...

The other day I was talking to one of my friends about the people who are perfect to be crowned away with glory with the super title of COPYCATS. And our discussion made me write this up here to share all the qualities of these weird creatures and my hatred for them.

I don't like it when people compare their lives with others and try to copy, imitating the other person in almost everything just to be like him./her or envy them...Why can't they be original or at least appreciate someone or something taking inspiration from them rather than blindly copying them. Everyone has his/her own unique qualities...why not try to accentuate them rather than trying to be someone else.

And God, what they don't copy....What you wear, how your wear, your hairstyle accessory, the way you do up your home, kitchen...from your refrigerator to your cutlery...to the shade of nailpaints...huuhhhh....how vast it ranges.....How can one be so sick!!! True..those people are mentally sick.

I do understand that people like how others do something, even I do and that is the way to learn new things from experience but at least have the gratitude and courtesy to appreciate the choice & taste of person and your desire to try it yourself. Instead these irritating creatures will copy it and portray as if its their though work taking the credit from the original person sheepishly. BUT hey remember that you can copy everything from head to toe or from this corner to that, but you damn cannot copy the attitude. And yes if you think everybody around is fool not to understand your cheap tactics,, Baby..you are surely mistaken...

I really appreciate people who are original in their thoughts..ideas and have the guts to appreciate others for their good things.Who doesn't like some or the other thing in other's life....I have friends whom I admire for their attitude towards their life...their dressing sense...but yes I praise them for their good quality and try to imbibe something from them in myself but not copying blindly inch by inch just to be a mirror image of them. Be happy for others happiness and see how your's increase up by many folds. I am not preaching but I try to follow this : "If you are Good, then everything Good will happen to you".

Everybody out their know that you are a bloody copycat and Yes to you...I dislike Copycats (hate would be quite a strong word).

I am sure all of you have come across someone apt to suit this title in your life as I have seen handful of them in mine....

Wanna share some instances....It will be fun :)

Color me ORANGE...

My today's facebook status reads:  Orange seems to be the color of the month....I am liking everything that is orange except THE ORANGE itself :)

This shows how obsessed I am currently with this color. I have bought three dresses of varied shades of orange...bright orange...dull orange..peach...and yes an orange wallet too....lol. Just for a note, I am wearing an orange jacket today ;) Now I think its high time I stop gathering everything orange or else I will have  orange-o-mania...funny...But yes at times it does happen with me that I become so obsessed with a color that I go on buying stuff of the same color without realizing of overdoing it...So its time to control....

Glad that today is friday and I will  get my full quota of sleep tomorrow....sleepy me...Its not hat office is going hectic n all but the culprit is Bangalore weather which makes it soooo difficult to come out of my cosy blanket snoozing my alarm so many times that I tend to be late to office more than the times I am on time :P

No great plans on Saturday as India Pakistan match is scheduled and it will be a herculean task to even try to move M out of home to miss such a historical event..hehe....Good hopes for Sunday as I will make sure he compensates for the Saturday home arrest. Few things on shopping agenda and I take a pledge I will stay away from anything that even remotely matches orange ;)

Soon half of the year will get over...Time really does have wings...

Jiah Khan's suicide made me think how anything can affect one to such limits that he/she can take such dreadful step like suicide...I agree that yes it pains to lose one's love but it can't be love if it leads you to commit such heinous crime...Love makes you live each day with much more enthusiasm and hope and love. Anyways to each his own...

I am in a happy state of mind and looking forward to much more happiness to unfold in coming days..I can't help but SMILE :)))

TGIF....Have a super weekend guys....signing off

Just Like That...

Hey people...please forgive me for the crime I have done...Crime...yes of course..absconding from this platform for over than three months is a crime for sure.....So I apologize everybody for that......I am in a happy state of mind with some of very pleasant things happening with people around me and those who are important in my life. Will give the updates later. Most of my wishes are being granted by Dear God...I thank to him with all my heart...May he keeps his blessings like this ever on me :)))

And yes what I have been doing all this while....My in-laws visited us for over a month and then I visited my parents....So that kept me busy...the rest of the time passed by in excitement and all the preparations....But now I am back to my normal routine and how I missed this place....

Well as the IPL is over, hope this will make my weekends more happening as M would have no reason to stay back and watch those unending numerous cricket matches. Lot of good movies are lined for released...Its long since I saw a good movie with the whole gang...Weather is also showing off its good behavior..While everybody all over India is complaining of the heat waves, Bangalore is still way better than the rest. I celebrated my car's first anniversary...its really special...There are no holidays in the coming two months so it would be no play all work for all the five days of week except the lovely weekends which I start waiting from every Monday itself ;)

What else, I am putting everything which is coming to my mind right now...May be random but that is the state of my mind now..I am happy to be here with all you lovely readers.

Keep loving me and reading...

House Arrest...

Its official.....I am having chicken pox and have been advised complete isolation by the doctor. When the doctor was giving this advice to me, he seemed to be the jailer sentencing me house arrest for 2 weeks...Oh GOD...my head was spinning...worried not by the fact that I have this chicken pox but that I would not be able to step out of the house for 15 days which were sounding like 15 years for me...completely nightmarish..

The kind of person I am who feels suffocated even if I am made to sit whole day at home,,,and to be isolated to a room was an irony in itself.

I was almost up to tears thinking of my house arrest or rather room arrest and how now M will have to do manage everything alone. He took work from home for two weeks and I also informed my senior of my absence. But then, my problem remained... what to do??? At that thought, I thanked the person who invented internet without which I would have died of boredom in that room. Just sitting in that room of 16 ft by 12 ft, I had breakfast, lunch, dinner served in my room..All thanks to the care given by M...And here I was sitting counting days and praying to the almighty to somehow fast forward the time and make this week pass by quickly so that I can be a free bird again. M has made all arrangement to help me keep occupied....net, music, books, movies, newspaper etc but my wanderer soul was craving to go out and this feeling was heightened & worsened on weekend when I would imagine all my friends enjoying out there  while I am sitting in the room due to this stupid thing....M would just tease me to keep things light that God had punished you for making me go out every weekend with you,,so now you are confined and to which I would warn him of the coming weekend where he will have to compensate for this one and we both would laugh our heart out.....

But all thanks to my doctor and my presence of mind that the viral attack was not a severe one as I had heard of and I have almost recovered in a week. Can't imagine though that I actually drank so much of cooling juice like coconut water, buttermilk, orange juice, litchi juice even water in just these few days. Probably more than what I had for a year. And the worse of torture was that I was not supposed to take bath for five days so as not to spread the infection. Poor me (:

For my wonderful hubby, thank you M for all the things you have done to ensure that I am given the best. Many thanks to my friends & relatives for giving me calls to check that I am doing good.

So friends, I am all done from this itchy disease ridden captivity and out of my hibernation and ready to rock this weekend.

Cheers!!!

SALE SALE SALE !!!

Step out of the house and all you see in the market is big white boards printed in red shouting SALE SALE SALE!!!

One thing which I still don't understand is that why the word Sale is (mostly) printed in Red color.  The only reason which I (naughty me ;) can think of, is the danger color warning for every guy before he steps in the shop with his girlfriend or wife...that his wallet is at the risk of getting raided and for the girls..it is in red as it is the most attractive color with a very high frequency to be noticed.

Well whatever be the reason, this sale season comes every year.....year after year.......BUT...at a very odd time of the year. December - February is generally the big sale season..when a person is already bugged down by so many things. After being depleted of half of his savings in the festival season..Dussera, Diwali, Christmas, New Year...people are already struggling to manage to make ends meet...Then comes the another villain named Investment..which rub salt on the wounds... Among all these..there is this sale season teasing  us at our crisis and laughing at our thinning wallets and shrinking bank balance which has achieved a size zero figure by now.

But I will tell you the BIG surprise....I too wait for this sale period :) like others..The happiness quotient is a notch higher and the frequency of the market visits increase 3 fold. The temptation to buy branded things at half or one third price is so luring though I understand that it is not the case...but how does it matters even if  I am able to save some of the amount and the personal satisfaction of getting my favorite branded clothes at a lesser price than original. It is so difficult to resist yourself of the mouth watering sale...

A very handy tip coming from the horse's mouth....I mean to come from a freaking shopaholic me....that .. it is very important to make a list what you need otherwise you may end up spending your hard earned money buying stuff that you may not be in need of, which usually happens. So, think before you buy....

And now a confession....whenever I step in stores to buy out in sale....I like all the fresh or new arrivals...poor me (:  Does this happen with you too?

Happy Shopping!!!

Not a good start...

Sad Smiley Face Card
I know you all must be wondering about my hideout post new year. But trust me, I am going through not a very good patch of my life. Otherwise, there would not be a reason why I would be visiting my blog after 20 days. This little world of mine is one of the most lovely places where I love to be. But all these worries are keeping me apart from it. Don't understand why things are not going fine and the very start of the year has been tremulous...God knows how the year will go on, the year which has yet to offer me a lot of special things....

I consider myself as one of the most positive person, but sometimes I feel, life is not all that rosy which I think, it is. May be God is testing my patience and everything will fall in its place...but how come this is happening in every aspect of my life...professional, personal, emotional....I don't know how to deal with it.....At times, I feel hopeless....then I console myself to be strong..... the very next moment I am crying.....I am not able to understand what is happening with me.....Please GOD...help me....guide me...how to steer through this difficult time and be the person I am....

Cocktail of Thoughts...

It seems just yesterday when our gang was storming their brains to decide upon the theme and color code for the new year party 2012....and today as the year is almost bidding goodbye with 2013 knocking loud...I feel that time really does fly and more so when we want it to hold on.

2012 has been fairly okay for me with its share of mixed moments of good and not so good times.

My black beauty aka my car became mine after months of contemplation and frustration of deciding which one to buy. It is a different feeling and yes owning a four wheeler is not a luxury anymore.

Happy Birthday to my BLOG...Imprints of the MIND.....I entered the blogging world in Dec 2011 but have started putting stuff here from May 2012...So going by the writing phase its still midway but going by the records...my blog turns a year old and here is me wishing my blog a very Happy Birthday....

I have seen a number of movies..both good and bad and like the movie buff I am, any movie has to be damn irritating to-be not liked by me...so you know my choice...I can watch any damn movie except few but in theatres of course...at home I have lot more other options and engagements..also 2012 gave a wide variety of movies....some very good ones with excellent social messages.

Attended a good friend's engagement and wedding...and believe me it was fun...reminded  me of my own wedding...same anxiety, confusion, planning, budgeting...lots of shopping.

This year has witnessed a lot of deaths of some very popular figures and yes many others of course. Life is short, so enjoy it...and whoever you may be....everyone has to face the same fate. Ya, sounds philosophical but its true.

There has been increase in the crime rate...deaths, kidnaps, rapes, murders, extortions...The latest being the brutal gang rape case of Delhi..This all saddens me. Makes me think that no place is literally safe for girls and why parents are right when they say they are more worried about the girls than the boys..the logic stands clear apart.

The inflation has touched a new peak. I have come to realize this as I have felt this in my daily routine. Sugar has risen from 16Rs/kg to 40Rs/Kg, Gas cylinder increases four times the rate I remember...from 100 to 430 Rs....Petrol has become priceless...and is continuously doing so. What irks me is that our salary is not increasing in that proportion and our hard earned money which we pay as the so called taxes is adding to the bank balance of the corrupt politicians.

Lot of other events have happened across the year but these are few which I can think as of now that have been directly or indirectly added to my memory.

So my 2012 was ok ok..How's your been?

Bollywood 2012 - My Bests & Worsts...

2012 has been great for me as far as movie watching is concerned. I & M have seen number of movies...handful of them planned and a number of them unplanned. As 2012's last big banner and the most awaited movie 'Dabangg 2' is released now,  the filmi pundits have also gone on a new year break.  This year had its share of  some mind blowing hits along with some mind baffling ones too. Here are my picks of best and worst of 2012 from Bollywood.

MY BESTS

ENGLISH VINGLISH: Being Gauri Shinde's debut film, this one is hard to be unliked by anyone. Sridevi, in her comeback movie, has done fabulous job and has proved her acting talent yet again. Truly depicting the emotions of a woman who wants to do everything possible to please her family only to be humiliated by kids and husband for her speaking skills. Truly a mirror of society. Hats Off Performance by Sridevi!

OH MY GOD: Another fantastic movie which is a brave satire on commercialization of religion and God. Fabulous acting by Paresh Rawal. This movies preaches to believe in GOD not to follow traditions blindly. The way to God's heart is by helping the needy not by spending money in temples. Wonderful message :)

VICKY DONOR: Totally out of the league with an all new star cast, this movie can be termed as the most hilarious movie of the year made on a sensitive topic like sperm donorship. It has spread the message in a very light yet convincing way. Fabulous acting by handsome Ayushmann Khurrana and ever charming beauty Yami Gautam. Also special mention to Annu Kapoor.

BARFI: This film by Anurag Basu proves Ranbir Kapoor as the scene stealer. No bold dialogues, no loud music, this movies echos the silence of its two main protagonists. A perfect example showing the celebration of life. Standing ovation to the charismatic appeal of RK. Priyanka also does a fabulous job but her acting skills could have been extracted for more. But a must watch different love triangle with  refreshing set of songs. Paisa Vasool!!!

KAHAANI: An amazing suspense thriller, with a beautiful Durga Pooja backdrop and an unexpected ending. Vidya Balan has rocked in the movie. This proves that if the story is strong, film can be a hit inspite of a male lead. Be it the story, the dialogues, the narration or the acting, the film excels in all. Truly an award winning performance.

Not to forget Jab Tak Hai Jaan (special mention as it is a SRK movie :D ), Gangs of Wasseypur ( not yet seen but going by the general acclaim), Talaash, Dabangg 2, Ishaqzaade.

MY WORSTS

AIYYA: Don't know what was Rani Mukherjee thinking while signing this film as her comeback. Poor story and script has let down the audience. Nothing much to say about the film just that this can give a shock to your mind. Awful...Aiiiyyyyoooooo!!!

DANGEROUS ISHQ: Again a bad choice for a comeback. Too less of a time to depict a story spread across a timleine of 500 years. Karishma is a superb actor but her skills get wasted here. Nothing to offer. Jimmy Shergill looks cool but has only a limited role. Don't dare to watch.

JOKER: Another mindless film with nothing to offer. Not expected by Akshay Kumar. Perfect example of how too much madness spoils the movie. Dont watch if you want to avoid a headache. Event the aliens would be amused at their picturisation. Total Bakwaas!

HEROINE: The much hyped and controversial film of Madhur Bhandarkar finally banked on Kareena Kapoor's shoulders. But there was nothing new. Earlier it was fashion industry and now its film industry. Rest is the same. This cannot be expected from an award winning director. Kareena Kapoor looks glam and classy but lack of good screenplay & direction spoiled the film. Over-hyped...

KHILADI 786: Go to the theatre after keeping your brain and logic at home as there is no need for both of them. Mindless comedy and mindless action forms the part of the film. Akshay Lumar should now go for something serious. Picturisation is colorful and I like the songs. The worst logic is the story of Akshay's family. Total paisa & time wastage...

There are many in the list but these are the most highlighted ones? Is your list something different from this? Wanna share with me :)

Bollywood Rocks!!!

Jaago Mohan Pyare...

I just don't like getting up too early in the morning. I am a night person. You ask me to be awake all night and I would be up like an owl but to get up early or rather really late night (for me) is just not my cup of tea...I set up four alarms to get up in the morning. If I have to get up at 7 then my alarm starts at 6.30 then 6.45 then 7.00 then 7.15, just in case, if I missed the last ones. Two days later, I have a 6 am flight to board for my friend's wedding and I am loosing my sleep over it now only. A 6 am flight means, I will have to get up at around 2.30 am to get ready in time with my  last minute packing and to have my refreshing cup of tea without which I feel I am sleep walking.  Whether I sleep early last night or late, it's always difficult. Sometimes I think to get up at 2.30, I should not sleep at all but foreseeing the busy days of wedding I have decided to take a quick nap to rest my ever wandering eyes.

Apart from this hard task, I am really excited about the trip as I love to attend marriages and its long ending affair of rituals & celebrations. Really looking forward to it. Will update on the details of my trip later.

I swear I will never book an early flight.  Getting out of bed so early is the hardest challenges of the day.

Ain't this funny !!!
Just remembered this quote, slightly twisted but quite apt in today's scenario...

"Early to rise, and early to bed, makes a man healthy but socially dead...."

Ciao till then :)))

I want to LEARN...

A few days ago when I saw a person playing guitar in a mall, I was just enthralled by his performance. His fingers were giving birth to melodious music. That made me realize, how much I wanted to learn guitar but somehow never found out time. So I thought to write down things which I want to learn and make sure that I manage to take out little time for myself to know them one by one.

I WANT TO LEARN:

Dance - The several reality dance show presenting skilled dancers has invoked in me the burning desire to learn a dance form. This has been my wish from my school days. I fancy Salsa but also feel that the classical training is a must to know the intricacies of basic dancing and to acccustom the body to various dance forms.

Guitar - I had always wanted to learn a musical instrument, either a synthesizer or a guitar......and decided on  guitar when I saw that Mhmd. Rafi's song 'Kya Hua Tera Vada' from movie Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahi......in which Tariq Khan is playing guitar along with Rishi kapoor in the frame. Remember that song? Ya...very old one but one of my favorites :)

Baking - I wish to learn baking one day and make some really yummy mouth watering cakes, muffins, cookies :) and to decorate them

Stiching - I want to learn some basic stitching as I am or rather M is tired of my unending visits to my tailor almost every other day for some alteration.

Whistle - I know this might sound funny but this I so want to learn to be able to blow a super powerful whistle.

Foreign Language -  I want to learn at least one foreign language out of the main four European languages like German, French, Italian or Spanish...Which one should I learn has not been decided till now.

Swimming - I wish to learn swimming for two reasons. One is that for learning the art and second which is more important is to save me from drowning first and then someone else...No, I am not being selfish but its just that I have to be safe to save somebody.

There may be some additions to this list as the time progresses, but for now these things are what I want to learn in my life. And I promise myself to take out some time for my aspirations.

Happy Fourth Anniversary Dear Husband...

Dear M,

I can’t believe time just flies and that is exactly what has happened to me. Today as we celebrate seven years of togetherness with four of them married on our fourth marriage anniversary; believe me when I say that these seven years have been the best ones of my life so far.

I still don’t understand how the teasing of friends brought us closer and when the cupid struck & our love blossomed. I didn’t know then and I don’t know now. Even now when people get to know about our love marriage and ask who proposed first, I am clueless what to answer and I just smile and say ‘No One’. Till date there has been no official proposal but each of us believe one thing for certain that we belong together. And from that day till today, the journey besides you is a blissful one.

Despite our conflict of interests in many things, what worked for us and is still working for us four years into marriage is the fact that we are less of husband wife and more of lovers. For the last seven years, each day has been a new start and in the course of day, we laugh, we fight, we argue, we remain silent, we tolerate, we fall in love again.

I know that you do not believe in expressing your feelings through words but dear I can feel your selfless love in every single thing you say to me or you do for me. I know that everything will be ok when you are with me. There are unending reasons why I Love You but these simple things done by you make me loose my heart all over again.

  • I love you when you say there is time when I am already late in getting ready so that I don’t rush over.
  • I love you when you increase the volume of TV when I am in the kitchen so that I can hear and understand what is going on in my favorite show.
  • I love you when you wake up silently when you have to go to office early so that I sleep undisturbed.
  • I love you when you leave something uneaten so that I can have it as it was only enough for one.
  • I love you when you go out with me every weekend just because I like to do so even if you are tired and don’t want to step out of the house.
  • I love you when you do not watch cricket just to let me see my favorite serial.
  • I love you when you can make out from my face that I am upset even if I haven’t told you anything.
  • I love you when just by the intensity of my saying yes, you know whether I like something or not.
  • I love you when you say that you also don’t want to have something when I say no just to make sure that I don’t have to make it only for you.
  • I love you when you do something purposefully just to bring a smile on my face.
  • I love you when you solve my tiniest of problem in a blink.
  • I love you when you stand in the kitchen just to give me company.
  • I love you when you answer my dumbest of question repeatedly.
  • I love you when you get so tense seeing me in tension or in problem.
  • I love you when you ask my suggestion on every matter, however small or big it may be.
  • I love you because you would rather be home with me than anywhere else.
  • I love you because you keep me smiling. You warm me with your cuddles. You hold me up when I’m down.
  • I love you because all the little things you do make such a big difference in my life.
  • I love you because since the day you came into my life, everything is perfect.
  • I love you for the fact that I can be myself when I am with you.
  • I love you because I like the sense of security I feel when I am with you.
  • I love you because you complete me in every possible way.

I would like to dedicate this song to you as I connect with each and every word of this beautiful composition by Celine Dion.

"For all those times you stood by me

For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right

For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful, baby

You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through
Through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me

Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me, ooh, baby

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach

You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love, I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me

Maybe, I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because
I was loved by you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me

Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

I'm everything I am

Because you loved me!!!"

                                           Happy 4th Anniversary Dear M...

I love you more and more with each passing day and I couldn’t be more blessed to have you as my partner.

Loads of Love...

Completely Ethnic Anarkali...

As per the Fashion Gurus, fashion repeats itself every now & then and they have been proved right. After the short kurtis, now its their long sibling which is trending. Anarkali suits have come back in fashion and is the latest craze in Indian fashion. Remember Madhubala wearing an elaborate anarkali suit in the famous song "Jab Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya". They are making their way almost everywhere, right from wedding parties to pooja to daily wear. The anarkali  suit is perhaps the perfect example of how vintage fashion can create a huge come back. It is the most liked Indian outfit in recent times considering its timeless beauty and appeal. The main reason for anarkali suit to be so popular among women of all age is its feminine and traditional outlook. They are a complete ethnic ensemble in them selves. All our Bollywood divas donning this beautiful attire is the proof of its popularity. The ankle length long flowy anarkalis are available in a range of fabrics from sheer chiffons to heavy brocades colored in broad spectra of  bright and vibrant colors. With broad hemlines and heavily embellished necklines, they are the most fashionable outfit for the season.

The anarkali flatters most body types because of its A-line cut. It gives the slim a shape and hides flaw beautifully, giving an overall elegant look. They have an ethnic look and feel to them. However it can be made to look more contemporary with its length reduced. Short anarkalis are a modern twist to the anarkalis. On the other hand long, kalidaar, ankle length anarkalis are completely traditional generally with full sleeves and heavy work.

The latest anarkali trend is the layered ones with a separate long jacket or a layer of separate fabric attached to it or the panelled ones which give you a slim and svelte look.

With festive season already in, Go grab & flaunt your anarkali suit and look your charming best!

I have got one for me already :)))

Waiting for Mr. MOON...

Today is one of those special day of the year when I feel so blessed to have a life partner like M and really thank God from bottom of my heart for bringing him into my life. You would be thinking why only this day...it is not that these feelings are just reserved for this day but this one day bound by tradition and culture makes it all the more special. Today is my fourth Karva Chauth. In modern days this festival has been much glorified and commercialized due to its significant portrayal in Hindi films and television soaps. But for me this day is to celebrate my belief in this beautiful relationship and to pray to Almighty to keep it savored with much love and trust which are the two most essential pillars of any relationship. Karva Chauth is a festival of love and belief and gets its name from the diya or karva which is used in pooja and chauth as it falls on the fourth day of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha of Kartik month). It is considered an important and auspicious day for married women.

I love applying mehendi and get it done in the evening a day before for the color to come out dark and bright. Mehendi walas are in high demand this day and have their rates soaring high. I remember long queues at the mehendi shops in Lajpat nagar as late as 12 in the night when I used to stay in Delhi. Markets are all decorated in the festive colors  with beautifully decorated pooja thalis and ladies flood the market for buying their karvas and pooja stuff. This festival is celebrated in groups mostly in northern part of the country but as not many people follow this custom here down south, I do it in my home along with my close family members.

My day starts with the fast, with the pooja preparations by decorating the karva, setting up the place for pooja, all decorated with diyas, colorful rangoli, coconut, ashok leaves, fruits and sweets. I make poori and halwa for prasad. All decked up in a traditional attire with colorful bangles, bindis and traditional jewellery, pooja is done in the evening which includes reading the Karva Chauth vrat katha. The fast is broken after the sunset with sighting the moon through a sieve and then looking at  M (though he finds this whole process amusing) and taking the first sip of water and first crunch of food from his hand. But sometimes Mr. Moon tests my patience and takes his own sweet time to appear playing hide & seek with clouds. Last time I was lucky. Lets hope for the best this year.

This whole celebration and process may seem mockery to some people  who quote it as a blind faith and a fashionable trend........but I feel it is a small gesture to hold on to each other and say "I Care".

Happy Karva Chauth to all the ladies and their husbands or to-be husbands.

Honey....What to cook for Dinner tonight???

This is one question which is thrown out at M by me every evening when I return from office...and for which every evening, a pre-recorded message type answer is tossed back at me - "Whatever you wish, dear"....which makes me all the more frustated than the whole tortourous cooking proceedings.

Here is our daily conversation on this topic.

Me: Kya banaun aaj khane mein?
(What to cook for dinner today?)
M: Kuch bhi bana lo, jo tumhara mann
      (Make anything, whatever you wish)
Me: Kuch bhi matlab kya.....kuch naam to hoga na
(What do you mean by anything....It must be having  a name)
M: Matlab jo tumhe khana hai, main toh kuch bhi kha lunga
(I mean what ever you wish to eat, I will eat anything)
Me: Gusse mein...Kabhi kuch bol bhi diya karo
( All frustrated... At least name something at times)
M: .............................(no answer)

Really I tell you ...Cooking is a hell of a boring and terrible task (Note: Here I am talking about the regular household cooking comprising of a breakfast, lunch and dinner) but the more dreadful task is the thinking process which goes behind deciding on the dinner menu...I mean thinking what to cook is more stressful than the actual cooking itself (except for some preprations which seem to be never ending..)

All these food items look so tempting na...so much variety....But only the planner and maker of this yummy food knows the hard work both mental and physical which goes behind that.

The minute I step out of my office, this question dances in my mind from one corner to the other giving me shudders....Every Monday to Friday (Note: Its not that I do not eat on weekends....but dinner is always out...breakfast is skipped as we get up late and lunch...somehow I manage) I come home, stand in front of the fridge and think.....And when I finally decide on what to cook (as it is of no use to ask M about it and get that same question mark look on his face), another trauma awaits me of finding out half of the ingredients are missing. That leaves me with no option other than going for some life saver recipe for which ingredients is not a problem as khichdi, vegetable pulao or some aloo dish......and just for the information, these are all which I hate and M loves....but at least these are easy to cook rather than going out to get the missing ingredients. There are same four five patent vegetables available at the shop which I am sick and tired of cooking and eating....Yes, I can try to cook different cuisines.. Chinese... Continental and I do know some off-the-routine recipes like dosas, manchurian or pavbhaji.....but who has the time to try out new delicious recipes or to break my head on inventing some new variation of the same old stuff.....The day when there is dinner party or outing on a weekday, I am sure that there is no person more happy on this Earth than me....It feels like there is no work after reaching home...I am the most relieved and relaxed person that day.....

This used to be the scene every day until I came up with a solution. Its that we normally buy vegetables for the next whole week on Friday itself as there is lot of other stuff to do on weekends and weekdays are super busy.. So now I make a menu (and you guessed it right....again a list) for the week and buy vegetables as per the menu list so that nothing is missed out and I am spared of exercising my brain of  the same routine question everyday. This way I have a stock set of recipe list which are of different variety and which I can alternate over a two week period so that the dinner is not monotonous or repetitive. See change is needed here too. The quote "The Only Thing is Constant is Change" fits this situation so damn appropriate.

I believed that it is the case with  me only that it takes half the task off my head when somebody tells me what to cook but after interviewing all the ladies of my family and the extended family...I concluded with a relieved heart that this is the case with every lady who is in charge of cooking dinner.

So here are five quick tips for ladies to find a quick answer to this question?

- Have some frozen food items like paneer, peas always stocked in your refrigerator in case you do not want to cook an elaborate dinner or something is missing.
- Make a list of all the daily routine recipes so that you do not have to think of what to cook when time is running ahead of  you. Look at the list and in the fridge and get ready to cook.
- Its not always that you have to cook as per the strict instructions by the recipe book or the one who has told you the recipe. Some change here and there as per your convenience can be done...just that they should not be too consequential on the taste front.
- Plan the menu in advance to suit your schedule. As in you can cook something elaborate on Friday night as Saturday is a holiday and your are not in a rush to eat and sleep early.
- Always keep an eye on the ration list to have an idea of what is there in the kitchen and what is going to run out of stock so that you can refill those before its needed.

Hope this helps you in your cooking ordeals.....Do let me know any other quick fix tips to save on time and energy. I guess, ladies, we are all sailing in the same boat.
